The Humanness Behind the Therapist

As therapists, a part of our work is fed by our personal passions. While we operate out of various therapeutic orientations, we also get to be creative with our approach. You’ll often see this referenced as eclectic or integrated.

Personally speaking, some of my work is guided in part by the methodology and drive of the yoga philosophy. It is both the physical practice and the mental clarity and ease that bring me back to my mat each time. I like to think the emotional awareness I have compiled over the years is simply icing on the cake. Very delicious, homemade peanut butter icing, if you will. I practice and teach at Fahrenheit Yoga, where I celebrate this belief and value system with each and every student.

Another outlet of mine is functional fitness. I go to a gym called Nashletics. For an hour a day, all I think about is the task in front of me, which usually pertains to figuring out how to get something over my head and relying heavily on my strength to do it. What is often underestimated in the world of fitness is the mental toughness you grow over time. I walk out of my Nashletics home feeling stronger both physically and mentally. I attribute a lot of this to the natural high I experience due to the physical exertion. Not to mention the family I have accrued over time is irreplaceable.

Us clinicians are not ironclad. We are made of the same flesh and bone as you. We’re human with the capability of making mistakes, overstepping, and completely misunderstanding. We are also well-trained, motivated and incredibly invested in the process that is psychotherapy. We work alongside you, at the same pace with our own personal splash of sparkle that help the relationship flourish. That peculiar, special splash, plays host to the creative coping skills in our work we get to do together.

The team at Nashville Center for Trauma and Psychotherapy is a sea of unique, wildly attuned, and eager clinician’s with their own passion pits that play a role in their work. It’s a connection point and a vulnerable piece they’re willing to share (myself included). Reach out to us at info@nashvilletherapy.co to understand your options.
